Short answers to what people most often need. If yours is not here, write to us and a person will answer.

Uploading files and folders

In My files, choose Upload, then Upload files or Upload a folder, or drag them onto the page. A folder keeps the folders inside it.

Each file has a row of its own in the Uploads panel at the bottom right of the screen, where it can be paused, resumed or cancelled. Uploads carry on while you open another folder or another page of the app, and carry on by themselves if the connection drops for a moment. Closing or reloading the tab stops them; the browser asks first.

Free can store what it includes. Pro can store more, up to what your spending limit allows. The storage bar at the top of My files shows how much is used.

Sharing a file or a folder

Select the file or folder and choose Share. There are two ways to share, and they are kept apart.

A link shows that one file or folder to whoever has the link, and to nobody else. It can have a password, can stop working after a set time, and can allow only a set number of downloads. Remove it from the same window and it stops working at once.

Public puts it on your public page, where anybody can find it beside your username. Everything inside a public folder is public too.

Getting a file back from the trash

Move to trash does not delete anything at once. The file or folder goes to Trash, in the sidebar, and still counts towards your storage while it is there.

From Trash, Restore puts it back where it was, or at the top of My files if that folder has gone. Delete for good removes it at once, and Empty trash removes everything there.

Anything left in the trash is removed after 30 days.

Plans, and the spending limit

Free stops at what it includes. When its storage is full, uploads stop, and when the month's downloads are used up, downloads stop until the first of the month.

Pro includes more, and can go past it. What you use beyond what Pro includes is added up through the month and charged at its end, or when Pro ends.

That is never more than your spending limit, which you set in Settings, Plan and billing. At the limit, uploads stop once Pro's storage is full, and downloads and API calls stop beyond what Pro includes, through your links too. Nothing is deleted. To carry on, raise the limit or make room. A limit reached by downloads or calls also clears on the first of the month.

You are emailed as you near the limit, and when you reach it. The early warnings can be switched off in Settings, Notifications; the one at the limit cannot.

When Pro ends

When Pro ends, the account is on Free again. If it holds no more than Free allows, your files are not touched.

If it holds more, it becomes read-only: you can open, download, move and delete your files, but not add any. Downloads count towards Free's allowance for the month. Once what you hold fits Free, you can upload again at once.

You have 30 days to make room or subscribe again, and you are emailed before anything is removed. Then what is in the trash goes first, and then files, largest first, until what is left fits. Settings, Plan and billing shows which.

Keys for the developer API can only read for a while after Pro ends, and then stop.

Keeping your account safe

In Settings, Security, you can turn on a second factor: a code from an authenticator app, a code by email, or, where it is offered, a code by text message. Signing in then asks for the code as well as your password.

When you enter a code, you can choose not to be asked again on that device for a while.

You can ask for an email after each sign-in, in Settings, Notifications. If one comes that was not you, change your password in Settings, Security, which signs out every other device.

The developer API

On Pro, Developers lets you make apps. Each app is a drive of its own, apart from My files, and a program reaches it with one of the app's keys. A key can do only what you allowed it, and can be kept to one folder.

The developer reference lists every call, what it takes and what it answers. What an app stores, downloads and calls counts towards your plan like anything else, and each app's share is on your billing page.

Deleting your account

In Settings, Account, choose Delete my account. Your files are removed from storage, with your profile, posts, share links and keys. A Pro subscription is cancelled first, and what is owed is charged.

A few things stay. A report somebody made about something of yours stays, without your name. A message you sent to support stays, with the email address you gave it. Our payment provider keeps its own record of what you were charged.

Something is not working

Choose the question mark at the top of any page, then Report a problem. Say what you did, what happened and what you expected. The address of the page you were on goes with it, so it can be found.

If you are signed in, the answer is also kept under Your requests in the same menu, where you can answer back.
